You MUST have something to look forward to. Something that you’re excited to do or can’t wait to create for yourself or others.

If you, like me, have the type of brain that doesn’t seem to function “normally” … screw that, by the way. Do whatever you need to in order to drop expectations of “normal.” Let your brain be the explosive device that it is.

Screw “normal” and fitting in. Blah. Explode! …

I know that comes along with some “downtime.” “Weather changes” in the brain, I once heard a smart friend refer to them as. I like that. And the contrast can sometimes be jarring. It’s ok! You’re fine, you brilliant gem.

Learn who you are. Learn what you like and don’t like, and even why you like or don’t like something. Learn that you don’t have to be like ANYONE ELSE on this planet.

What if someone makes fun of you? Good! It means they noticed you and what you’re doing, and it caused a stir inside of them loud enough for them to bring a reaction to you in snark form. That’s art. Brilliant art provokes reaction.

If someone says you are wrong? I for one know that isn’t true. Do you know how many times I have been told I couldn’t do something? That I shouldn’t even try? That things I wanted weren’t for me? I proved every single one of them wrong. Motivated only by myself and the belief in myself.

Once, I was told I wasn’t a “real artist” because “real” artists can keep all the paint on the canvas. Well, that’s beyond ridiculous. Let your soul paint and splatter paint all over the friggin’ place. Don’t ever apologize for it. Live your life in a way that you can look back on it and say, “Hell yeah. I damn did it.”

Xoxo,
Meghan Jenkins
