[Editor’s Note: Meghan Jenkins would like to direct your attention to some stand-up comedians, comics, and performers that she has seen in-person or online and enjoys. This series of profiles and Q&As is her way of saying about some performers, “I don’t know how this person hasn’t blown up yet, so if we can help get them some attention with MeghaZine, let’s do that.”
Some of these interviews are conducted by Mark Aldrich, MeghaZine‘s editor, and others are conducted by Meghan Jenkins herself.
Shay Kiddy is an as-yet unsigned singer and musician from central Connecticut. He had started to perform live in venues around his hometown, but when the pandemic struck he found an audience online: as of today his TikTok account has over 38,700 followers. He has many clips on there and performs live on that platform frequently.
One of the more enthusiastic fans of Shay’s soulful, powerful voice is our own Meghan Jenkins, whose eye and ear for performing excellence has shown her to be a skillful talent scout.
Shay Kiddy’s music is available through all the streaming music services and retailers. Here is a small sample:
We give you now some of the music of Shay Kiddy and an exclusive chat between him and Meghan.—Mark]

Hey Shay! Thank you so much for doing this interview with me. I have some questions already, I was writing them as I was watching you on TikTok live tonight. You are from Connecticut, correct?
Good Evening Meghan! Thanks so much for popping into my live, showing love and wanting to interview! So, I live in Connecticut, it’s been a little over a year now. I was actually born here at Yale New Haven Hospital. That being said, I spent most of my life (25ish years?) in Missouri, about 45 minutes from St. Louis. Then I was in North Phoenix, Arizona, in a little area called Cave Creek for three years before moving here to Connecticut. I’m a gypsy soul for sure!
Do you have any formal music training?
The only “training” I have is high school choir. Vocal training is on my to-do list for sure, I just always seem to push it off.
Is your family also musically talented?
For sure. My late grandfather had a lovely voice, reminiscent of Frank Sinatra, while my father also has a good voice. I also have two little sisters who can sing, although they are very shy about it. My grandmother on my dad’s side plays the piano and we have other instrumentalists. It’s a shared passion in this family no doubt! 🙂
Who are you favorite musicians bands and musical artists?
I get asked this a lot and I always say, “That’s like asking me my favorite food, it’s too hard.” It’s so subjective and based on a lot of factors … it’s an ever-changing opinion. I will say I have a few artists on repeat including Crywolf, Josh Groban, and Three Days Grace, falling in reverse. Such different genres but I love it all, really I do!
Do you have any albums online? Where do you perform?
No albums yet, in the process of releasing a cover song for streaming services. I’d also love to start working on original music. So far it’s mostly online like TikTok and Twitch. I’ve done a few local gigs and want to start marketing myself more throughout the area.
Do you have a day job? What is it? (See, this is why Mark is here. Is this even an appropriate question?? You don’t have to answer this if you don’t want too!)
I don’t mind at all lol. I’m a special education paraeducator for a school district. Its a secondary program for young adults. I absolutely love it, it’s really rewarding. They all love music, too, so I want to find a way to incorporate that more.
When did you begin singing?
I have been singing since I could make sounds, but I’d say I really started getting serious about it in high school.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Best-case scenario? I think if I could be a singer for a living, making music and traveling the world. (Haha.)
Realistically, I’d love to continue to advance in the special education field, while doing music on the side along with traveling the world. 😉
